Ducks frequently drink while feeding. Frequency and duration of drinking is expected to be affected by the distance between feeding and drinking sites. When two sites are close to each other, drinking frequency is expected to be high whereas drinking duration is expected to be short. We tested this prediction through manipulative experiments, in which the distance between feeding and drinking sites were altered. Video Picture 1 shows a duckŽÕs behavior when two sites were close to each other, whereas Video picture 2 shows a duckŽÕs behavior when two sites were widely separated. A duck drank more frequently and spent less time per drinking in Video picture 1 than in Video picture 2. Grooming frequency was also higher in Video picture 2 than in Video picture 1.
