A display of a male pheasant was filmed around eight o'clock in the morning. The male had chosen an elevated spot lacking high vegetation. It then sang in the direction of the field below while performing a drumming display (= a display in which a pheasant makes sounds by clapping its feathers). Vocalization (or singing) with drumming probably functions as territorial defense. Other pheasants were singing as well. And the male appeared to be singing back in the direction of another singing bird. Although the drumming sounds are not clear in the video picture, they are quite loud in the wild. In the end of the video picture, the male is fluffing up its feathers. This behavior always followed a singing-with-drumming display. (translated by Asoh)
