This species is distributed from Boso Peninsula southward to the tropical Indo-West Pacific and is found in shallow sand rubble areas with depths of less than 20 m. This individual was found in a salt pan in a gravel tidal flat. When touched, it clapped its valves shut. A few second later, however, it put its tentacles out of the valves and started moving (String-like projections along the rim of the mantle are tentacles). Like scallops, it propels itself by clapping its valves together and forcing water out of them. (translated by Asoh)
