Digital video showing the reproductive behaviour in landlocked red-spotted masu salmon. An M-type female (counter No. 01-04 in the video image), an N-type dominant male (05-08), an N-type satellite (12-13) and three M-type satellites (09, 22 and 33-36) are involved in the group. (a) The pair released the gametes with the mouth open (32-36). Simultaneously, two M-type satellite males rushed into the pair and released the sperm with the mouth open (32-36). Though part of the behaviours in the video are hidden by the stone, we directly observed from another viewpoint. The N-type satellite (12-14, 64-65) and M-type satellite (22, 41-44) failed in the sneaking. (b) The lateral pattern of M-type satellites is similar to that of the female (70-85).
