A water strider Gerris elomgatus detected a prey, a fallen fly, by sensing the waves on the water surface. It approached the prey and ate it. It inserted a needle-like proboscis into the fly, and digested the fly by external digestion. After feeding, the strider lifts the fly so as not to lose the prey to other individuals.
