Nymphs of water striders, which hatch from eggs underwater, have to get to the water surface as soon as possible because they can not breathe underwater. But there is strong tension at the water surface. It is not easy for weak nymphs to break through the barrier of surface tension, and some nymphs actually die without succeeding in getting out of the water. (translated by Asoh)
