In many species of birds, a parent retrieves an egg that went out of the nest. What kind of objects do birds recognize as eggs? In order to get an answer, I showed various dummy eggs to a Snow Goose. The egg shown at the start of the video is a real Snow Goose egg. I placed various types of eggs around the nest: an egg smaller than a Snow Goose egg, an egg larger than a Snow Goose egg, a much larger egg, a cube-shaped egg, and a red egg. To my surprise, the goose tried putting all types of eggs back to the nest. It did not, however, put the egg smaller than the real egg under its belly. (translated by Asoh)
