In insects that go through complete metamorphosis, body form changes dramatically from a larval worm, to a pupa, and to an adult.

I reared a lava of the butterfly Atrophaneura alcinous in the laboratory and filmed pupation from pre-pupal to pupal stage, color changes of pupa, and eclosion.
The pupal color becomes blackish as synthesis and deposition of pigments progress. Later the pupal color becomes lighter as a space is formed between the body and the pupal casing.
Upon eclosion, defecation inside of the pupal casing was observed.
