By around the end of 1980s, the black-tailed gulls have developed breeding colonies in Rishiri Island. The colony at Porohunbe, the north-west seashore of the Island, was the largest one as of 2005.
The wind was blowing from left to right. The most individuals on the ground faced to the windward.
