A receding tide after spring high tide is washing over a bed of goose barnacles (Capitulum mitella). Barnacles are opening their plates and extending their feathery limbs called cirri into the water. When being washed over by a wave, barnacles expand their cirri fully against the water movement. During low tides, barnacles shut their plates tightly and they look like bivalves. However, in this video picture, you can see that they are arthropods closely related to lobsters and crabs. (translated by Asoh)
