Juvenile nibbers (Girella punctata) were feeding in schools in a tide pool subject to the open-sea waves. Both nibbers and mullets are omnivorous and they often feed on algae in mixed-species schools. The herbivorous yellowfin surgeonfish (Acanthurus xanthopterus) generally chases away schools of nibbers (flat-bodied) but did not chase a school consisting only of mullets (with elongate bodies).
