Red-eared slider is native to North America, and has been brought into Japan to be sold as a pet. However, some owner stopped keeping and many individuals have been released in nature. Recently, in Japan, red-eared slider inhabits many ponds, especially in urban areas. This movie was shot at a pond in a shrine located in suburb.

Males of red-eared slider take position in front of a female and shake their front legs to her for courtship. Only males have long claws in flont legs, possibly relating with courtship behaviour.
