Females generally give birth to one pup each year.
A female harbor seal has two mammary glands on her lower
abdomen. Most harbor seal pups are born in May.
Pups will nurse on land and in water.
On average, harbor seal milk is about 45¡ó fat.
Pups stay with their mothers for roughly four to six weeks,
and will gain a considerable amount of weight during the time
they are nursing. They may double in weight from the time
they are born to the time that they are weaned.
