Males of most dragonflies hold territories and wait for females to come to lay eggs. Territorial holding seems to be the surest way to acquire mates. Probably because all males try to occupy good sites, there are frequent male-male contests. Aggressive interactions in contests vary from species to species; however, this dragonfly Calopterys atrata Selys has species-specific actions.
