The Otton frog is designated as natural treasure by Kagoshima Prefecture. This species digs a hole of 20-30 cm diameter in the ground and deposit eggs there. They say that males generally dig holes. The frog in this video picture, however, is a female. It made the nest larger by extending the body and kicking the nest wall with hind legs. Later, a male came to the nest. The pair embraced each other and spawned.

This picture was taken during a project supported by the 16th Pro Natura Fund. (translated by Asoh)
