Adult female Crested Honey Buzzard in Taiwan with a nestling.
The bird gave a call when Taiwanese Macaques (Macaca cyclopis)
approached the nest. Taken from a YouTube video
"Oriental Honey Buzzard Nest Cam (7/1 Macaques invasion)"
(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HMVmM4reJ94) and uploaded
by permission of Raptor Research Group of Taiwan (RRGTaiwan).
The female noticed an approaching group of macaques
and erected the crest, and then covered the nestling.
When the macaques approached further, the bird started giving
a rattling call at 05:01 of this video at local time
T=12:51:45; the time is given T=HH:MM:SS).
The nestling was left exposed.
This state continued for approximately two minutes
and the female followed the movement of the macaques while
giving this voice. The female
also started giving the same voice at 09:39 of this video
(T=12:56:23) when the macaques moved around the nest.
When the macaques came even closer, the female
stopped calling and covered the nestling. The female
again started giving the same voice at 12:29 of this video
(T=12:59:13). Although the macaques were present
for additional 16 minutes, the female did not give this call
any more.
