Adult female Crested Honey Buzzard in Himeji City Zoo, response to
playbacks of various types of calls of Crested Honey Buzzards
(an ordinary call of a Japanese bird, own call and a rattling call
of a juvenile bird in Russia). The video was taken
after feeding. The bird started spontaneous vocalization
during the experiment.
The experimenter started playbacks again and it looked that
the bird reacted to the ordinary call of an adult male
Crested Honey Buzzard. This type of call tended to induce
vocalization while the bird became silent during playbacks of
the own voice (likely begging call). The reaction to
a rattling call of an adult male European Honey Buzzard
was intermediate between ordinary call and own voice.
