During gametogenetic behaviour, males of the Hierodula patellifera daitoana shake their bodies significantly when they detect female sex pheromones.This was used to create a flow of gas by placing a calling (releasing sex pheromones) female in a desiccator and using a pump to create a flow of gas.Males were placed at the gas outlet of the desiccator and responses were observed for 5 min.As shown in the video, when the female is reliably calling, the male immediately shakes his body when he senses the gas at the desiccator outlet.
