Larval dispersal behavior observed in the goby Lubricogobius exiguus during hatching.
The parent fish holds newly hatched larvae in its mouth and releases them at the entrance of the nest. Both the male and female of the pair commonly perform this larval dispersal behavior. While releasing the larvae, the parent continues to fan its fins near the egg clutch to generate water flow (at 14 s) or gently mouth the clutch (at 34 s). These behaviors promote hatching.
