Wasps of the family Braconidae are relatively large as parasitic wasps, and many lay only one egg per host egg. Pupae, which larvae make after emerging from their hosts, vary in shape and color, and the variations are sometimes used as keys for species identification. Pupae of the wasp that parasitize the Noctuidae rice moth Naranga aenescens hang from the leaf tips of rice plants. Consequently, this wasp is called "Honen-dawara-komabachi", meaning a rice-bale-of-good-harvest-year wasp. The video shows a Braconid wasp that parasitizes larvae of the moth Hellula undalis. After emerging from a host, a larva of this wasp starts making a cocoon that hang from a leaf. The string attaching the cocoon to the leaf has a spring-like structure at its leaf end. The larva inside the cocoon continues making the cocoon and finally becomes a pupa safely.
