Territorial males (T-males) maintained territories within the artificial spawning substrate (PVC pipe caps), and courted approaching females by wiggling their caudal fin above or within the substrate. The females entered and exited the T-male's territory several times, those responding positively to courtship spawning benthic sessile egg masses within the spawning substrate, and departing immediately thereafter. Soon after female spawning, the T-male released sperm toward the eggs, pushing the latter deep into the substrate. Subsequently, the T-males stayed within the substrate and protected the eggs by hiding them with their bodies.
